The Sixth Day

We toured Haines on Thursday, August 13. We had to be at the ferry at 3:30PM, so we were not in a hurry. The ferry ride we took this day was from Haines to Juneau.

After Jerry was made aware of the coffee, he took this photo some of the other campers. Tom P., Mike, Gary, Eugene and Tom L.
The previous day we had biked through the Chilkat Eagle Preserve. A few of us glimpsed an eagle for only a few seconds. On our way to town we spotted two of them sitting on a rock near the road. We stopped and they flew to the trees. Gary has some impressive video shots of these with his 72x zoom.
This row of what is now apartments and bed-and-breakfast inns were once Fort Seward.
This is the ferry Malaspina. The ferries are owned by the State of Alaska, and each is named after a glacier. We took this same ferry both from Haines to Juneau, and the return trip to Skagway. This shot was taken at about 4:30 as the ferry arrived in the Haines depot.
Dennis and Jerry stand on deck to get the photos in the next frames. I thought the weather was yucky, so I took few photos. The return trip weather was worse!
This is the Davidson Glacier. It was the most impressive glacier we saw from a distance on the trip.
This lighthouse looks like a toy in the photo. It is simply dwarfed by the grand scale of everything else mother nature provided as a backdrop.
We arrived in Juneau at 10pm or so. We checked in to a real hotel, took showers and turned in.
