The Seventh Day

Friday August 14th was a tourist day for all of us. We checked out the sights in Juneau Alaska. I woke up early and went down to MacDonalds for breakfast with Jerry and Gary. We saw Marc just before he departed for L.A. We were now the Alaska 7. The rest of the group had breakfast at a little bagel shop before we headed out sightseeing.

One of the more incredible sights in Alaska are the glaciers. Just outside of Juneau is the Mendenhall Glacier. Gary is setting up his tripod for some group shots. We all moved down on the rock for some great photos. Jerry is not in this one because he took the photo.
After chilling our chins by the glacier we drove back to town and took the Mount Roberts Tramway for some spectacular views. This was taken on the nature trail that continues up the mountain.
Gary and Jerry pose next to a totem carving in a live tree. Still on the nature trail, Jerry took the second photo of me looking out over the Gastineau Channel. We headed down to the tourist center, had a leisurely lunch and then took the tram back down.
We wanted some photos of Juneau from the other side of the Gastineau Channel, so several of us drove to the other side. Here are the photographers at work.
The left photo I took of Juneau from this same vantage point. Jerry took the right photo. It shows the Mount Roberts Tramway.
Later in the evening, we headed out for dinner. The last thing we expected to see on the streets in Alaska (or perhaps ANYWHERE) were belly dancers on the town square.
In the left photo taken by Jerry I look rather toasted as we wait in the "Wings" restaurant for dinner seating. If you think I look bad, you should have seen Dennis! The Alaska "Frontier" ale was the best brew we found on this trip. Mike took the second photo. Dennis is not here because he was at the pool tables.
We spent one more night in the hotel.
